Anupamaa Actor Rituraj Singh Passes Away: On-Screen Son Varun Dhawan Reacts, “Just Shocked, He Was To Work With Me,” Rupali Ganguly Writes A Long Note, Celebs Mourn
The industry woke up to a shock on Tuesday morning when the news of actor Rituraj Singh’s death broke. The actor was last seen in Star Plus’s popular show Anupamaa, where he played Yashpal Dhillon, owner of Spice and Chutney and Anupamaa‘s boss in the serial. The actor was known for his roles in Hitler Didi, Jyoti, Laado 2, Warrior High, and others.
Singh died at the age of 59 due to a cardiac arrest. His friend and actor Amit Behl confirmed his demise. Confirming his demise, the actor was quoted by The Daily Star, “Yes, he passed away due to cardiac arrest. He was admitted to a hospital some time back for treatment of his pancreas, returned home, and then faced some cardiac complications. He eventually passed away.”
Rituraj Singh was a member of Barry John’s theater group and has worked with the group for 12 years. He made his mark in Television, Web Series, Bollywood, and South Indian Films alike. He was a part of films like Thunivu and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, where he played Varun Dhawan‘s father. He also featured in season 2 of Made In Heaven.

The industry was shocked by the news of his passing away. His friends have been mourning his loss, and tributes have been pouring on social media. In an exclusive chat with Zoom, Varun Dhawan reacted to the news and said, “Just shocked. He was to work with me for Baby John. I met him on the set and chatted as well with him, and this was a couple of months back. He was very affectionate towards me.”
Varun even posted a picture with him on his Instagram stories and paid tribute to the actor.
Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri wrote, “Rituraj, my friend, how did you make it even possible? “Kitna baaki tha…” Artists never die. Om Shanti.”
Arshad Warsi paid tribute and wrote, “I am so saddened to know that Ritu Raj passed away. We lived in the same building; he was a part of my first film as a producer. Lost a friend and a great actor… will miss you brother.”
Manoj Bajpayee wrote, “How can this be true Ritz? Why? Such a devastating news to wake up to! Rest in peace, Rituraj, my friend! Om Shanti.”
Mourning the loss of a friend, Hansal Mehta took to X and wrote, “Rituraj!!!! Can’t believe this! I directed him briefly in a daily soap called K Street Pali Hill, but in the process, we became good friends. Been a while since we hung out, but I have such fond memories. Untapped actor and a warm human. Gone suddenly and too early.”

Anupamaa actress Rupali Ganguly shared a long note where she thanked the actor for his guidance. Her note read, “Dear Rituraj Sir, It was an honor to share screen space with you. Thank you for being Yashpal Sir to my Anupamaa ..Thank you for the words that left an indelible mark. May you find peace. Om Shanti”
