Indian Premier League, aka IPL, is knocking at the doors, and it’s just waiting for a few more days. The fans are pumped with excitement as they gear up to cheer for their favorite teams. Amidst all this excitement, it was recently revealed that Gautam Gambhir has returned to Kolkata Knight Riders as their mentor, under whose leadership Shah Rukh Khan’s team won two IPL trophies. But at what price?
Gambhir is a left-handed batsman who has played the sport for the Indian team across all formats between 2003 and 2016. He was the captain of KKR for a few years. For the unversed, Shah Rukh Khan’s film production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, in unison with Juhi Chawla and her spouse, Jay Mehta. Gambhir was associated with the team from 2011 to 2017. Now, according to several media reports, including India Times, Shah Rukh Khan offered a blank check to Gautam Gambhir to return to Kolkata Knight Riders and potentially guide them to a win for the third time. However, no substantial proof supports this claim or determines whether Gambhir accepted SRK‘s blank check. KKR is leaving no stone unturned to create an excellent team, as they also got an Australian speedster with a whopping Rs 24.75 crore, making him the most expensive player.

After leaving KKR, Gambhir was in Delhi Capitals and played for them. He then joined Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor. Shah Rukh Khan’s team, Kolkata Knight Riders, failed to even make it to the playoffs in the last two years, and perhaps that’s why they decided to bring Gautam Gambhir back and share his wisdom with the team.
Gambhir even shared an inspirational speech upon his return to Kolkata Knight Riders. In a video released by KKR, their former captain said, “In this group, everyone will be treated equally. There is no senior or junior, no domestic or international divide because our sole mission is to clinch the IPL trophy. Everyone needs to adhere to this singular objective.”
