The first season of Running Point premiered with mostly favorable reviews. The story of a woman leading in a traditionally “all-men” space was a new angle, rarely seen in romcoms. Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, the president of the fictional basketball franchise LA Wave, was a delight to watch on screen. The first season ends with the LA Waves losing so close to the championship, and Isla’s romantic life in a mess as she kisses the Waves’ coach, Jay, while still dating Lev. Running Point Season 2 Ending Explained
As Running Point Season 2 comes to a conclusion, we see that many unresolved issues from season one are resolved, but at the same time, they give rise to new ones. Isla ends her relationship with Lev but does not jump into a relationship with Jay and also flirts casually with Luke, the arena tenant. When Jay returns to LA, the two begin dating in secret, but Jay is now a coach for a rival team, complicating their relationship.
Marcus, a star player of the LA Waves, takes a hiatus following a serious injury. LA Waves face a rollercoaster battle against their main rivals, the Boston team. But soon, they found a win and clinched the championship title. But Marcus’ injury is far worse than what he revealed. His Achilles’ tendon is injured, signaling the end of his career.

Cam, who was all about reform and stepping down from his presidency, turns the tables with his schemes to shake up the ownership and push Isla out. He has been faking his drug tests, but is discovered by Jackie, his stepbrother. But Cam has planned more than that. He joins hands with Al Fleishman and announces the revival of the LA Industry basketball team, with Jay as the head coach and part-owner. Jay’s new position threatens his relationship with Isla and also makes us wonder if he truly was interested in Isla or if he was around her just to know her plans.
Cam’s comeback in season 2 was quite shocking and felt like no less than a betrayal. It was certainly surprising to see initially when Cam was open to letting go of his power position. Politics and power are something that people harbor close to heart, and seeing Cam give it up easily felt like a welcome, yet suspicious, move. Season 2 finally cleared the fog, though.

As for Jay, he needs to get his priorities right and set firm boundaries. At this point, it feels that he is just playing with Isla’s feelings. Isla also needs to get a grip on her emotions. Jay has been an unstable character since season one, and sometimes even if you say “the heart wants what it wants,” the reality is quite different. Jay should have come clean about his motives, and Isla should also have been clear about her expectations.
Will Running Point Return For Season 3?
At the time of this writing, there has been no official confirmation from Netflix about the show’s renewal. However, if we go by the ending, then there is certainly scope for season 3. Cam’s announcement of a new basketball team and Jay’s partnership in it certainly throws a wrench in Isla’s plans, both personally and professionally. Ali and Ness also seem to be growing closer, so there is a scope for their story to pan out in the next season as well. With Marcus’ career in jeopardy, it raises a lot of questions about the team’s future. We could also see some new additions for players, which in turn will give rise to a whole new dynamic. Isla has yet another challenge set for her in the next phase of the team’s playoffs.
